New York costumer Shirlee Idzakovich has worked in film, TV, and stage costuming and has over 100 builds in her credits and is involved with EdTA and developing national arts standards and resources. The workshop will address costuming for education theatre and begin with what it's really like to work in a costume shop. Discussion will include the time schedule for costuming a show, character development for costume needs, and a rubric for costume design. Shirlee's workshop will also include a hands-on session on making costumes out of thrift store shirts. Participants are asked to bring an old button-down men's or women's shirt and a pair of scissors, and the shirt will be cut into pieces to make different costume pieces. In addition to the four hour costume workshop, a choreography session will be held by choreographer Kevin Alan Brown, Assistant professor of Theatre at UAPB and artistic director of Red Key Dance Theatre.
The workshop will be livestreamed to participating educational service coops. Information about attending the live presentation at the Arkansas Repertory Theatre can be obtained by emailing arthespians@gmail.com.
