NEA - Investigating Sources

In this workshop, George Jared, local investigative reporter, author, and recipient of may distinguished awards in the field of journalism, will emphasize the importance of using credible sources, and how to tell if a source is credible.  This professional development opportunity will be targeted more toward high school English and social studies teachers, but many others in the field of education will likely find the information useful.

George Jared has covered, and continues to cover, a wide array of stories including murders, presidential elections, natural disasters, the stories of holocaust survivors, a woman who lived to be 114, and Johnny Cash--plus many more!  Jared was writing stories for newspapers even as a high school student at Salem.  He began his full-time writing career in 2004 and has worked for many media companies, including an eight year stint at The Jonesboro Sun.   His books include Witches in West Memphis , about the West Memphis Three, Creekside Bones, covering local murders, including the Elliot family from Dalton, and will release his third book, Whispers in the Willows, later this spring.   Mr. Jared has been invited to bring copies of his books for anyone wishing to purchase one.

If you are not under contract with the Northeast Arkansas Education Cooperative or one of our 14 member districts, you will be responsible for all fees related to this workshop.  The fee for this workshop is $25.  Pa
