NEA - Pre-AP Social Studies & History

This workshop explores the three areas of focus in a Pre-AP social studies classroom: evaluating evidence, incorporating evidence, and explaining historical relationships. With these focus areas in mind, participants experience the Pre-AP model of disciplinary apprenticeship by leveraging source sets the way that historians and geographers do. Participants find out what makes a source set useful, and they learn Pre-AP shared instructional principles and strategies to guide work with source sets. There’s time to engage in peer feedback on new source sets.

Objectives  Teachers will:

  • Analyze the Pre-AP World History and Geography Course Framework.
  • Explore sample source sets and resources for building source sets.
  • Plan instruction to support new and existing source sets, applying Pre-AP Shared Instructional Principles.
