NAESC Behavior Essentials: Necessary Skills to Effectively Change Behavior: Session 1 - Essential Behavior Concepts

The Behavior Essentials is a three session, eighteen hour professional development to help school staff understand and change behavior.  Consecutive attendance in all three sessions of Behavior Essentials is required prior to attending any of the Targeted Intervention Trainings being offered throughout the school year. Additionally, the Essentials are required in 2019-20 for the development of future school district BX3 teams that will receive in depth training and coaching toward building local capacity. Suggested TESS components addressed for this workshop include: 1C, 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, and 4B.

In this first session of Behavior Essentials, participants will be introduced to applied behavior analysis, an established scientific approach to meaningful behavior change. Behavioral concepts covered in this session will provide a foundation and an understanding of behavior; common language and the process used to address challenging behavior will be promoted through the behavioral concepts. Participants will experience a theoretical shift relative to behavior management and behavior change.
