DSC A Taste of Genetics - MiniONE PCR

Why are some people able to taste the bitter chemical PTC and others are not? In this joint professional development, led by Ouachita Baptist University faculty and students and Education Cooperative specialists, teachers and students will learn basic DNA gel electrophoresis and band visualization techniques. This engaging professional development is designed to help teachers and students make the connection between their own ability to taste PTC and an understanding of what may cause these traits to differ. The techniques learned in this session applicable to many relevant investigations in science classrooms, gifted and talented programs, citizen science, and science and engineering fair projects. Teachers are encouraged to bring up to two 7-12 grade students to the session to learn the techniques first hand. Participants will have the opportunity to check out PCR and electrophoresis equipment for use at their schools.
