AFESC--Instructional Mathematics Routines (6-12), Zoom Session



This 6 hour virtual session will consist of online pd and independent work. 6-12 Math teachers will dive deep into the implementation and planning of  instructional math routines.Having clearly defined routines for interactions and discourse supports students' engagement in mathematical practices and their learning of mathematics content.  routines will support students language and engagement with mathematical learning while supporting justification/explanation and modeling skills needed for state testing. Routines give structure to time and interactions, supports classroom management and promotes productive classroom relationships for teaching and learning.  Routines are an essential part of mathematics classrooms because:

  • They give structure to time and interactions
  • Supports classroom management and organization
  • Let students know what to expect in terms of participation
  • Promotes productive classroom relationships for teaching and learning
  • Participants will have opportunities to plan instructional routines in future instruction. Participants are encouraged to bring curriculum resources and planning documents to this training.
