AFESC--Growing Grammatically: How Understanding Syntax Can Improve Reading Comprehension and Writing Production, Zoom session

This session has been converted to a digital training and will be delivered via Zoom.  If possible, along with your computer, please have available paper, pen, and phone.  For the best learning experience, we ask that participants keep their cameras on and stay muted unless speaking.

Syntax is one of Hollis Scarborough’s language comprehension strands on her reading rope.  Understanding how syntax impacts a reader is essential for becoming a skilled reader.  In addition, understanding the function or the jobs of parts of speech and how sentences are structured enables more fluid writing production.  In this session, participants will view syntax from both the reader’s and writer’s lenses. Participants will learn strategies to help students break down complicated syntax in text and strategies to improve better sentence and paragraph writing.

1a, 1d, 3c, 3d, 4e
