Orchestra directors new and “experienced” will find practical ideas, activities, and instructional strategies to incorporate into their teaching. Multiple strategies will be presented which can be tailored to the individual teacher’s unique classroom experience. Some topics to be addressed will include setting up beginners, classroom management, instrument-specific pedagogy, building rapport and team-mindedness in the ensemble, social media/web presence for your organization, teaching shifting/vibrato/advanced techniques, getting and staying organized as a traveling teacher, choosing repertoire for various grade levels, and a music reading session. Participants are encouraged to bring an instrument, either their own or a secondary one. Much of the session will be hands-on; attendees will get the most benefit by participating rather than observing. Sharing of ideas with each other is strongly encouraged!
