Maker to Market: Economics & Finance in the Kitchen

This workshop will walk participants through the multiple stages of bringing a food product to market.  This lesson is an effective way to introduce and present economic and financial principles.  Concepts include earning money through a job, making a food product to sell and purchasing a food product with money earned.  Jobs include following instructions and cleaning up.  There are multiple cross curricular connections and the hands-on aspect is highly engaging for students. The concept is adaptable to all grade levels but this workshop will focus on 1st-4th grades.  Includes a hands-on cooking activity doable in the classroom.

Upon successful completion, participants will receive:

1 hour of professional development credit

a choice of a children's literature selection related to the presentation
