NAESC UPSOAR Project: To Deliver Opioid Abuse Training

Arkansas has the second-highest rate of opioid prescriptions in the nation, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. This trend has severely affected the health of entire communities, with counties like Stone, Sharp, Baxter, Fulton and Izard being among the most affected by opioid and substance abuse related death in the state.  Ozarka College along with Winrock International and UAMS have partnered together through a grant from USDA, to improve the quality of life in rural Arkansas by increasing knowledge and awareness about substance and opioid abuse.  Trainings will cover the science of addiction, signs of misuse and abuse as well as ways to reduce the stigma attached to addiction.
