SCSC - K-2: The Science of Reading: A Deeper Dive



This training will equip participants with strategies based on the science of reading needed for APPLICATION of the BIG FIVE in the K-2 classroom. The most effective ways to teach phonological awareness in both whole group and small group settings will be addressed in detail. Practical ways to align current phonics lessons will be practiced as well as specific ideas to ensure that oral language is a vital part of instruction. Additionally, explicit vocabulary lessons will be modeled and practiced and specific strategies to build true fluency with all subskills will be demonstrated. This session will be a deeper dive and will involve participant interaction which will help teachers see how to put it all together.

For member districts of the SCSC Professional Development Consortium the fee has been waived. Districts that have not paid for nurses and/or paraprofessionals will pay the listed fee. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified by email (address tied to escWorks). Participants are not allowed to bring guests (such as children or spouses) to any training.  All participants are required to wear a mask.
