DESE-2021-Navigating Grief and Loss in the School Setting: Supports for School Counselors (Virtual)

It is well known that students, educators, families, and communities experience trauma on many different levels.  The grief and loss resulting from the CoVID-19 Pandemic has only added to the concerns already present in our state.

The Division of Elementary and Secondary Education is working to provide a multi-phased approach of dialogue and resources to support school-based Counselors in the areas of depression, anxiety, and grief.  Participant feedback will inform content for future sessions and the development of supports.

Important Session Information:

Andrea Fortner, Director of DESE’s Guidance and School Counseling Unit, will host a two-hour interactive session for school counselors. Nicole Fairchild, LPC and Stacy Moore, Ph.D. Psychologist, both part of the Arkansas AWARE project, will lead a discussion on anxiety, depression, and grief. Time will be devoted for participants to process the content and provide feedback on their needs as they relate to supporting grief and loss.  This session will be recorded and posted to the Guidance and School Counseling wepage.
