DSC Using the Art of Freedom Quilts in the Art Classroom

In this zoom workshop for art teachers, we will discuss freedom quilts that were used by slaves in the underground railroad. This would be a great lesson for Black History Month. We will look at the designs they used and create a lesson to teach your students about them. We will then create our own designs to use as examples in your classroom. You will need paper that can be cut into 8x8 or 6x6 squares, a pencil and eraser, and your choice of either markers, paint, or colored paper to cut and paste. If you would like to mount your paper quilt squares, you will need large paper, board, or material and adhesive. If you want to be fancy, you are welcome to use felt or fabric and sewing materials; however paper is fine and probably more practical for your classroom.
