DSC Integrating Literacy into Social Studies/Highly Engaged Social Studies Classroom
Although not tested in a standardized/mandated form, social studies courses contain some of the most critical learning students are exposed to 5-12. Because history and government courses are addressed through written textual information, lecture, and student discussion--the connection to literacy is obvious and vital. This professional development will address (A) How to Connect Literacy Skills and Social Studies Content in Effective Ways and (B) How to Make Your Social Studies Classroom Engaging and the Content Accessible and Relevant to Your Students. That is no small feat but very, very do-able and we will explore specific ways to accomplish both!
Important Session Information:
There is a $50 workshop fee for participants outside the Dawson Co-op area. For more information on this workshop, please contact Candiss Bennett at candiss.bennett@dawsonesc.com.
