GFESC Online Book Study: Mine the Gap for Mathematical Understanding in K-2 **VIRTUAL**



During this book study, we will be reading the book:  Mine the Gap for Mathematical Understanding; Common Holes and Misconceptions and What To Do About Them.  This book study will be four weeks long and consist of 2 one hour zoom sessions and weekly assignments to complete and upload about each chapter.  You will be required to purchase a copy of the book yourself, but upon completion of the book study and assignments, you will receive 18 hours of professional development credit.  During this book study, you will cover topics such as:
What makes a high quality task
Gaps that students develop in mathematical understanding over a variety of k-2 math topics including counting, comparing numbers, operation reasoning, the equals sign, working with money, and more.
What causes these gaps in understanding
Ways we can address these gaps
Additional requirements for this book study:
Basic knowledge of Google Classroom
Ability to participate in both zooms
Ability to check your email weekly for zoom links, questions from book study leaders, and session updates.
