NEA - Morphology for Content-Area Teachers
All teachers know that vocabulary is critical to learning in any subject. In this session, we will examine how a problem-solving approach to morphology supports content area reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, and sentence development. This training is not based on literacy standards, but on the content standards for each subject area. The intended audience is for middle and high school teachers. It would be helpful to have your content standards with you (or access them online) and have pre-selected a few vocabulary words for a unit you will be teaching. In this session, you will learn why teaching morphology works, strategies for implementing morphology into any class, and a guided inquiry approach for exploring words so that the learning sticks in long-term memory.
