OUR Virtual SIM Main Idea Strategy: Improving Reading Comprehension Through Inferential Thinking
Student understanding of how to infer main ideas impacts many areas of academic performance--standardized test questions, recall of content from reading, analysis of literature, etc. This strategy can be used in the regular classroom, Special Education settings, tutoring programs, small group interventions, and homeschool settings. Students learn to identify the topic, essential details, relationships among details and how to infer the main idea. Student practice passages (at grade levels 2-9) are included to assist students in applying inferred main ideas to comprehension questions.
The teacher and student materials are provided for this session through a grant through DESE to the UCA Mashburn Center.
**Please check to be sure that your email address is listed correctly in ESC Works--all course information will be sent to this address. This course will be offered synchronously through Zoom.
