DSC Critical Analysis/Reading and Effective Discussion in the Social Studies Classroom (5-12)

Do you find that: Your students don’t do well with critical analysis of the material they read (and/or simply don’t seem to have good comprehension of material independently read)? Your students don’t participate authentically in class discussion? Your students just aren’t engaging well in your class content? If so, this session should help you with those issues! We will address these basic four areas: 1. How to structure your lecture and discussion time to really engage your students in the content (including handling controversial “hot button” issue discussions)
2. How to modify your questioning techniques to maximize participation and learning 3. How to guide students toward more objective, critical analysis of content 4. How to help students “close read” their text material for better understanding
