SCSC - Science of Reading: Writing in 2-8~ Part II
(If you have not taken Part I of this training, please register for and complete that session first.). You asked for it! Now here it is! In this session, we will take a deeper dive into the research by experts in the field of effective writing instruction. Multi-sensory strategies that match the science of reading will be demonstrated to support young students as they develop mastery of handwriting, spelling, and sentence composition. We will also use the afternoon of this follow-up session to begin the work of embedding TWR’s strategies into your current curriculum and lessons across ALL contents. Students are now entering middle school with a better foundation of phonics and phonemic awareness due to the focus on these elements in R.I.S.E.. However, the one component that has not been widely addressed is writing. If you teach 3rd grade through 8th grade, this training will involve digging into the standards and developing a writing process with your students to help them be successful in the process of putting words on the page. The professional text, The Writing Revolution, will be used in this training. The Writing Revolution’s method enables educators to teach writing skills and content simultaneously. There’s no separate writing block and no separate writing curriculum. Participants will be split into grade level bands later in the day to give more meaningful classroom application. TESS Components:
1A, 1E, 3B, 3C
Important Session Information:
For member districts of the SCSC Professional Development Consortium the fee has been waived. Districts that have not paid for nurses and/or paraprofessionals will pay the listed fee. In the event of cancellation, registrants will be notified by email (address tied to escWorks). Participants are not allowed to bring guests (ie, children or spouses) to any training.
