AFESC-Intermediate Networking - High School CS Professional Development

This 3-day workshop is for those who hold the 528 Computer Science Teacher Certification, 5014 or 5016 Computer Science Approval Code, or have completed the 30-hr ADE approved professional development. This workshop will begin with a discussion about the very concept of communication. We will explore the similarities between human-oriented modes of communication and the modes of communication that computers use. We will discuss the basics of TCP/IP configuration, i.e. IP addresses, subnet masks, default gateways, and what these terms represent. Attendees will be presented with theAd basics of network protocols and packet capture. The workshop will cover the OSI model. Particularly, we will be leveraging our understanding of what networking devices operate at a given layer of the OSI to diagnose and remediate networking issues. We’ll discuss how information is exchanged from point A to point B down to the very last bit. We’ll even be creating our own networking cables. Learning all of these troubleshooting skills is fundamental to being a successful computer scientist in any domain. If you would like to further extend your knowledge, we encourage you to also consider joining us for the Advanced Networking training. Here you will find a series of tutorials to help get you comfortable with cybersecurity and networking concepts and topics. -> Evergreen - Advanced Cyber and Networking Pregame Resources Note: Intermediate professional developments do not satisfy the advanced PD requirements for the Arkansas Computer Science and Computing Educator Academy.
