NWAESC(2095)...Using Text Sets to Elicit Critical Thinking and Student Engagement in the Social Studies
Are you looking for ways to engage your students and stretch their thinking beyond the textbook? If you are a middle school or high school ELA or Social Studies teacher, this session is for you. Using text sets, a collection of related texts organized around a unit topic, theme, concept, or idea, teachers are able to elicit students’ critical thinking and engagement. Using a multi-literacy approach, this session will give teachers an opportunity to explore various text sets and their uses. Strategies on reading, discussing and writing about multiple texts and perspectives will be the focus of this session.
