All teachers know that vocabulary is critical to learning in any subject. In this session, we will examine how a problem-solving approach to morphology supports content area reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, and sentence development. This training is not based on literacy standards, but on the content standards for each subject area. Before this PD, become familiar with your content standards (which can be accessed online) and various vocabulary words found within the content you will be teaching in the upcoming school year. You will learn why teaching morphology works, strategies for implementing morphology into any class, and a guided inquiry approach for exploring words so that the learning sticks in long-term memory.
