All teachers
know that vocabulary is a huge piece of the content that is taught; however, it
feels that every year teachers are teaching the same vocabulary words. Is there
a better way to teach the meaning of words? YES! By teaching students the
meaning of each part of a word through a problem-solving approach, students are
better equipped for reading fluency, comprehension, spelling, and sentence
development based on learning morphology. This professional development is not
based on ELA literacy standards, but on the content standards for each content
area.
Audience includes: Content-area teachers grades 7-12
Note: This is a
repeated session from last year.
