If you want to exponentially improve the effectiveness of your teams, this is the workshop to attend. Janel Keating will focus on the critical role of the building leadership team - the principal and team leaders. Participants will learn how this team advances the work of every team in the school and helps to provide a sense of systemness at the building level. Richard DuFour and Michael Fullan (2013) define this term and provide an important reminder:
Systemness—the degree to which people identify and are committed to an entity larger than themselves—is not about letting others work to get the system right so that you will be better off. It is about everyone doing their part in two aspects: being as good as one can be during individual and collaborative work and being aware that everyone needs to make a contribution to improving the larger system.
Janel will showcase how members of this team lead the work of a PLC at the school level. Participants will practice and rehearse the work they expect of individual grade-level and content teams, anticipate questions from these teams, and learn how to monitor and share learning data across the school. Essentially, the building leadership team members learn together and deeply understand the work layered under the four critical questions of a PLC before asking grade-level or content teams to engage in the work.
