NWAESC(2095)-Increasing ELL Student Success Through the Arts
In this workshop led by veteran linguist, musician, and educator Colleen Zaller, teachers will learn about and practice making classroom content more accessible for English learners. Teachers will analyze the strengths and needs of ELL students; experience how various instructional strategies can impact understanding in a new language; and explore concrete arts-based and language learning strategies and tools that can be used to make academic content more accessible. Teachers will actively engage in discussion, activities, and lesson-planning that they can easily customize for their classroom needs. Teachers will learn how including drama, movement, music, and visual art can increase student understanding and engagement. By the end of the workshop, teachers will have 3 mini lessons they can implement with strategies to make academic content more accessible to students at all levels of English language acquisition.
