GFESC Science of Reading Overview
This six-hour session is meant for those who chose a Prescribed Pathway for Proficiency that requires an additional day of training from the six alternatives. Participants will be introduced to the rationale behind the Science of Reading and begin to develop an understanding of the scientific theoretical models on which the training is based. Demonstrations for how the brain learns to read and how the brain permanently stores words will be shown. What works in the prevention of reading difficulties and interventions for those difficulties will be addressed, as well as how the 40 years of research in the Science of Reading is connected to classroom practice.
