NWAESC(2095)-Standards-Based Grading in Science
Are you tired of giving students a grade in science that is based on compliance or completion of a worksheet? Too often, teachers struggle with how to assign a grade to students in group work or science investigations when there is not an independent worksheet attached. In a Standards Based Grading system, a student's grade reflects how well they have mastered a set of learning targets. This system gives students timely feedback and opportunities to remediate and reassess their knowledge and skills. This session will focus on understanding what we are asking students to master, being more intentional with what is being assessed, and developing rubrics that are centered on student mastery of 3-dimensional learning expectations.
