3-6 RISE Day 2: Phonics

Phonics instruction plays a fundamental role in teaching students to read. Participants will learn how the Science of Reading supports this claim. Assessments will be examined and components of effective phonics instruction will be analyzed, which includes both regular and irregular words. Educators will be given a thorough explanation of the syllable types in our language, and syllable division rules will be explained in order to help students decode and encode words. For grades 3-6 much of this instruction could be used at an intervention level to close gaps in Foundational Reading skills.
