WDMESC: Fossils of Arkansas



Fossils of Arkansas Field Trip and Lab Instruction will have a major emphasis on geologic time and environment of deposition. The first day we will collect Mississippian age fossils from a black shale near Bethesda, Arkansas. We will search for nautiloid and ammonoid fossils that were ancestors of modern day squid and octopus. We will also tour McBride Stone Company, a locally owned company that uses stone from the surrounding area to create beautiful building and decorative stone. The second day is spent studying about Arkansas fossils and activities for students in the classroom. Teachers will receive a guidebook and activities.
