Economic Exploration at Lakeport Plantation (In Person- Lake Village, AR)
The third destination on the Arkansas Delta’s Economic Heritage Summer Tour is Lakeport Plantation. The Lakeport Plantation Home was built in 1859 for Lydia and Lycurgus Johnson who were cotton farmers from Kentucky. Today it serves as a museum telling the stories of the people who lived and worked the plantation starting in the 1830s to the present day. Participants will have a guided tour of the house, see Southeast Arkansas's impact on Arkansas History, and leave with ideas on integrating Arkansas History into their curriculum.
Ruth O’Loughlin, Site Director, will lead the tour and share many great resources. Terra Aquia, K12 Programs Coordinator at the Arkansas Center for Research in Economics at the University of Central Arkansas will help us make the economic connections related to this historical treasure of the Arkansas Delta.
This project is made possible by a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
