Fluency practice is not a worksheet! So what the heck does fluency mean? In this session teachers of K-8 educators will dive deep into the 21st century definition of mathematical fluency centered on the principles of mathematical efficiency, flexibility, accuracy and appropriateness. Teachers will be inspired to develop a deeper understanding of procedural fluency along with tools needed to shift and connect the K-8 classroom toward a fluency approach regarding Multiplication concepts. Educators will dive deep into significant strategies for fluency, progression of relationships to basic fact strategies, engage in a plethora of classroom activities/centers designed to promote procedural fluency of multiplication concepts with rational numbers, as well as come to know assessment tools available for classroom use. In designing a mathematical environment with fluency in mind, teachers will support every student in becoming quantitatively literate with knowledge and power to become skills and confident doers and thinkers of mathematics.
