AFESC- Cooking Matters

Over the six-hour hands-on workshop, participants will be taught shopping and cooking techniques to prepare nutritious, low-cost meals; they will discuss ways to modify eating behaviors and attitudes that may otherwise lead to unhealthy eating habits; they will identify means of increasing physical exercise into their daily activities, and they will learn basic principles of sound money management, such as budgeting, saving, reducing/avoiding debts.

Additionally, participants will learn a key economic principle that is relevant in many settings, i.e., decision-making and tools to guide them in that process. Effective decision making requires comparing the additional costs of alternatives with the additional benefits. Many choices involve doing a little more or a little less of something; few choices are "all or nothing" decisions.

Participants will receive:

  • 6 hours of professional development
  • Snack and  Lunch
  • Ready to Use Resources
  • $50 stipend
