NEA - Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI-Cohort Year 1)

Aligned with the Arkansas Math Initiatives, this Professional Learning opportunity emphasizes a student-centered, research-based approach to mathematics instruction. Educators will explore how to build on students’ current understanding to improve their mathematical understanding. The training will help participants identify strategies that lead to a deeper understanding of more complex numbers and number systems. Participants will learn how to support these strategies and introduce appropriate mathematical notation to help students clearly express their thinking. Finally, the session will provide techniques for facilitating meaningful student engagement during and after problem-solving to promote stronger mathematical reasoning.
