AFESC-Vocabulate! Student Engagement through Creative Language Exploration

A neologism is a newly created word or expression. For example, “vocabulate” is a word we created that means to creatively expand and shape vocabulary through exploration and artistic expression! Join us to VOCABULATE during this exciting and interactive workshop that focuses on the power of language and creativity in the classroom! In this workshop, we’ll explore student engagement strategies that incorporate the arts and creative language techniques, including the art of creating neologisms to expand students' vocabulary and imagination.  Led by Arkansas A+ Fellows, in this hands-on session you will learn how to use the arts to inspire student creativity and deepen connections to grades 4-12 ELA curriculum through the exploration of root words, word origins, and word relationships. You’ll also discover how to use these strategies to foster student engagement and encourage critical thinking. You’ll leave this workshop equipped with a variety of strategies to engage diverse learners, as well as tangible ideas to apply immediately in your lessons. Plus, gain access to a wealth of digital resources on Google Drive, including ready-to-use materials for both classroom teachers and art educators. Don’t miss this opportunity to refresh your teaching practice and spark your students’ creativity!
