DSC Making with CS: Creating, Coding, and Teaching How AI Learns

Making with CS combines creativity, problem-solving, and coding to help teachers design engaging, hands-on learning experiences for K–6 students. Participants explore core computer science concepts—such as sequencing, loops, debugging, and recognizing patterns—through interactive art, simple digital creations, and cardboard-based designs brought to life with code.

Educators will also learn developmentally appropriate ways to introduce artificial intelligence and machine learning, helping students understand how machines learn from data and examples through making, storytelling, and hands-on exploration. Using accessible materials like cardboard, craft supplies, and kid-friendly coding tools, teachers will discover how computer science and AI can move beyond the screen and fit naturally into classrooms, makerspaces, STEM labs, and after-school programs. No prior coding or AI experience required.
