AFESC-3-5 Syntax and its Impact on Comprehension
This six-hour professional learning session will deepen educators’ understanding of syntax and its essential role in reading comprehension. Participants will explore how sentence structure influences meaning, examine common syntactic challenges that impede student understanding, and engage in practical approaches for teaching students to unpack complex sentences. Through analysis of authentic texts and hands-on application, educators will strengthen their ability to support students in navigating phrases, clauses, and sentence structures across content areas. The session emphasizes explicit, transferable instructional approaches that promote stronger comprehension and more confident readers.
