SCSC - 4-12 Initial Screeners: Effective use of Encoding and ORF Measures

This professional development session is designed to support educators in the effective use of initial screening measures for identifying characteristics of dyslexia in students grades 4–12. Participants will learn how to administer, score, and interpret Oral Reading Fluency (ORF) and encoding assessments, including Developmental Spelling Analysis and Word Study inventories. The session will focus on understanding what screening data reveals about students’ phonological processing, decoding, encoding, and fluency skills. Educators will analyze student and class-level data to identify strengths and areas of need, determine which students should be referred for Level II screening, and use results to inform targeted instruction and intervention within Tier 1 and beyond. TESS components addressed include: 4B, 4F
