CRESC_ Babilov Drawing Workshop

Igor Babailov, world-renowned American portrait artist, will be at Wynne Junior High School June 15–17, leading a three-day professional development for art educators unlike any other.
Designed especially for teachers in rural schools, this workshop provides practical tools to expand impact, reach more students, and integrate science with art in K–12 classrooms.

Drawing and science have long been connected. Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo studied anatomy through dissection to inform their art. Naturalists such as Carl Linnaeus and Charles Darwin documented species through detailed drawings, while early microscopists Robert Hooke and Antonie van Leeuwenhoek illustrated the microscopic world they discovered.

Through the Babailov Drawing Workshop, part of the "The Aspirnaut Initiative Arkansas Delta Project," educators will explore how drawing strengthens observation, scientific communication, and visual thinking in STEM learning.

Art teachers are not expected to change their curriculum. Instead, participants will collaborate with a science teacher during the school year to apply what they learn and submit examples of student work.

Teachers will leave with strategies to help students:

*Develop sharper observation of nature and fine details
*Communicate scientific ideas visually
*Understand the deep historical connection between art and science
