OUR 3D Sculpture Using Cardboard & Plaster Wrap

During this 2-day hands-on workshop, K-12 art teachers will have the opportunity to explore cardboard, paper tubes, and plaster wrap, etc. Your work can be used as a teaching example, classroom management tool, enhancement for the art room, or skill building experience. The collaborative process will allow us to share experiences, challenges and inspire each other. Plaster sculptures can be transported but we would suggest you bring something to lay the art on for the ride home.  Painting is not required but will be an option.

You can complete one or both options.

Option 1: We will use the additive process to create an insect, fish, or other oversized animal sculpture out of cardboard and other materials. You will examine basic characteristics of the animal you have chosen and explore different sculpture techniques used in the additive process. Then, construct your own piece for personal growth or to inspire your students. All basic materials will be provided.  If you know what you want to make, you could bring a unique piece of cardboard or embellishment that would be helpful in creating your animal or other imaginary creature.  As we create, we can delve into some artists who use cardboard as their medium of choice such as Ann Weber.

Option 2: Create Dessert Sculptures (i.e., cake slices, ice-cream cones, donuts, cake pops, and cookies.) Create one or all.  While we work, we will explore the artist's inspiration, Wayne Thiebaud (TEE boh).  He was an American ‘pop art’ painter known for his colorful works depicting commonplace objects—pies, cakes, ice cream cones, pastries, and hot dogs.  Explore Peter Anton’s hyper-realistic food sculptures. His larger-than-life sculptures have been exhibited in art galleries and museums around the world.

You could also make a cardboard cookie using the Chomp Saw that can be used with the ‘Cookie Monster’ K-2 lesson. Create a watercolor res
