NEA - Developing Academic Language with the SIOP Model (Repeat of June 15 & 22)



This training provides depth of understanding around the explicit teaching of academic language and provides guidance on how to effectively support academic language development practice within the context of authentic content learning. Participants also explore ideas to facilitate meaningful collaborative academic discussions among students. 

By the end of this course, participants can expect to meet the following outcomes:

  • Define academic language and distinguish it from social language
  • Write effective language objectives for a variety of language tasks
  • Plan explicit instruction, scaffolds, and practice opportunities to meet language objectives
  • Determine methods for using technology to foster academic language development
  • Share ways to promote academic discourse in the classroom.
