GFESC Integrating Art in History Classrooms

This session will guide Social Studies teachers through a structured process for analyzing artwork as historical evidence. Participants learn to closely observe visual details, identify historical context, interpret the artist’s message and perspective, connect the work to broader historical themes, and ultimately develop a clear, evidence-based historical claim. The approach emphasizes critical thinking, visual literacy, and using art to deepen understanding of historical events and perspectives.
