GFESC Integrating Art in English Classrooms

This one-day professional development introduces English teachers to a step-by-step framework for analyzing artwork through a rhetorical lens. Participants begin by making careful observations, then examine the artist’s visual choices—such as color, lighting, composition, and style—to understand their impact. The session explores how to determine an artwork’s purpose and evaluate its use of rhetorical appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos). By the end, educators practice crafting clear, evidence-based claims about an artist’s message, strengthening students’ visual literacy and critical thinking skills.
