Teacher Credibility
The IT Factor: The Power of Teacher Credibility and Why Students Believe in Some Teachers and Not Others

Recall the last time you watched a teacher instruct students and were awed by her experience. She has IT! But what is IT? Often, the "IT" is not defined nor explained and as a result has little chance to be replicated. Thanks to Professor John Hattie's research, we know the "IT" factor is teacher credibility. With a 0.90 effect size, teacher credibility ranks among the greatest influences on student achievement. Tommy Thompson's workshop and upcoming book focuses on characteristics of credibility, how credibility manifests in the classroom, and practical techniques for teachers that reflect the art and science of the "IT" factor. Drawing upon 23 years in public education and leading experts in educational research, neuroscience, and social science, this workshop will highlight practices to help all educators strengthen their credibility.
