The LETRS for Early Childhood Educators module is based on the growing body of research that says - the more children know about language and literacy before they begin formal schooling, the better equipped they are to succeed in reading. Through this new version of LETRS, kindergarten and preschool teachers will gain the knowledge and techniques to dramatically jumpstart children's reading skills. Teachers will acquire a deep understanding of early literacy and developmental processes through topics such as:
- Phonological processing and the role it plays in oral and written language
- Structures of oral language that provide the foundation for literacy
- Component skills of phonological awareness
- Development of print knowledge
- Types and purposes of assessment
