Improving our Reading Instructional Practices in ALL Core Classes to Reach Our Tier 2 and 3 Students
Share
Are you struggling with why your grade-wide or school-wide universal screening data is not reaching the 80% benchmark in reading at the upper elementary and secondary levels? This workshop is perfect for upper elementary teachers and core content area secondary teachers as we will be addressing how to improve our core ELA instructional practices in ALL core content areas to help address the needs of students who are below benchmark in their overall reading skills (example: aReading screener in FastBridge). Enroll a team or teachers from your building or just yourself, but this day will be full of specific instructional practices you can use consistently in your core classes that will impact your students’ abilities to become better decoders of multisyllabic words and how to improve vocabulary and comprehension skills for your students in your specific content area. When our efforts to improve our student’s reading abilities are only addressed during an MTSS reading intervention time or in a core ELA class, our students learn to compartmentalize these strategies to only these classes. We need to make an effort to improve our instructional practices in all core content classes and align our teaching practices to what the science of reading has proven effective in how students become skilled readers. This workshop will align your teaching practices to help reach the needs of your struggling readers.
