Book Study: Social Emotional Learning and the Brain (Virtual)

Teachers today face the challenge of ensuring a positive school experience while understanding that many of their students have adverse childhood experiences and other social issues.  In "Social Emotional Learning and the Brain: Strategies to Help Your Students Thrive", Marilee Sprenger explains how brain science can be applied to social-emotional learning and offers clear specific strategies for all grade levels.

Content addressed includes:

  • How to build strong, caring relationships to provide a sense of belonging.

  • How to teach and model empathy, so students feel understood and can better understand others.

  • How to awaken student self-awareness – naming emotions, accurate self-perceptions and displaying self-confidence and self-efficacy.

  • How to help students manage behavior through impulse control, stress management and other skills.

  • How to improve student social awareness.

Participants will read the book and then meet to reflect on the books content and how it relates to their classrooms, students, and experiences.  “Social Emotional Learning and the Brain: Strategies to Help Your Students Thrive” by Marilee Sprenger (ISBN-10: 1416629491, ISBN-13: 978-1416629498) must be purchased before the first session.
