MREC - Addressing Feelings and Behaviors in Schools: Creative Approaches to Calming Kids
Necessity is the mother of invention, and there is hardly a more necessary time to get innovative than when children and teens exhibit big feelings in school. Sometimes even best-practice interventions and tried-and-true strategies don't work. Accessing the versatility of art can benefit teachers and counselors when children and teens do not respond to traditional approaches. In this hands-on workshop, attendees will learn easily accessible arts-based strategies to integrate into the classroom or counseling office to address social/emotional needs and challenging behaviors. Because educators and school counselors are in a unique position to help parents help children, the topic of teaching parents to use art as an avenue for connection and communication at home will also be addressed.
