Formative Instructional Practices: Leadership Development Session

The foundations of formative instructional practices include four of the key components of assessment for learning; creating and using clear learning targets, collecting and documenting evidence of student learning, using evidence and feedback to increase learning, and fostering student ownership of learning.

As a FIP leader you will carry the vision and build the culture at your school. You must be prepared to learn, practice, and commit to this very important work.

TWO WEEKS prior to attending this session, you'll receive an email containing a login to Battelle for Kids giving you access to a REQUIRED, PREREQUISITE 2-hour online course (FIP006-Battelle Leadership) that is to be completed prior to attending on Sept. 19-20. The FIP006 course will give all participants key language and expectations of leading FIP therefore setting the stage for a great two days.

Cost: $400 (A second participant from a school is $150 unless additional licenses are desired. Please email lacosta.potter@k12.nd.us to receive a discount code to be used when registering.)

Cost includes:

  • 25 licenses to the Battelle for Kids online resource
  • (1) credit Moodle course for your use in house
  • Just in Time coaching for the FIP leader throughout the school year

  • Plan for the change process and promote a systemic approach to FIP as part of a balanced assessment system.
  • Understand formative learning systems and a leader’s role
  • Understand conditions, processes and structures needed to support implementation
  • Leverage teams and online learning resources
  • Lead & sustain quality FIP implementation in your school/district
  • Model & Support the practices you expect to permeate

  • One continuing education credit is available through Valley City State University
