Socratic Seminar: Helping Students to Understand Text and Each Other - Featuring virtual coaching and face to face follow up experience

- Audience:  Educators Grades 3-12

Participants will:

  • explore the benefits of a seminar atmosphere.
  • examine tips for preparing for classroom dialogue and facilition of seminar.
  • investigate tools and resources for assessing and reflecting within seminar.
  • apply learning by implementing within the classroom.

Are you looking for a way to bring your curriculum and instruction together into a cohesive learning experience?

Join Julie Scarlato to explore the Socratic Seminar, an excellent means of developing imagination and creativity while building skills in the areas of reading, listening, reflection, critical thinking, and collaboration. No matter what content area you teach, Socratic Seminar is a way to spark student dialogue and is sure to make any text come alive.

Immediately following the first in-person session on October 23, participants will engage students in a Socratic discussion.  Educators will record and submit the discussion to the facilitator for feedback.  On November 27, participants will attend a facilitated session to reflect and share with colleagues before recording and submitting their second Socratic discussion for feedback.
