A DOUBLE HELPING: Serving Dual Language Learners - an online course

- Audience:  General Educators, Special Educators, Psychologists, Speech-Language Pathologists...Anyone who serves dual language learners.

  • Identify common patterns and influential key factors of dual language development.
  • Apply understanding of patterns and key factors of dual language development and evidence-based strategies to distinguish between “language difference” and “language disorder.”
  • Learn how to dynamically apply and individualize evidence-based “best practices” to identify the unique strengths of dual language learners and effectively support them.

Important Session Information:

By participating in this online course*, educators will be immersed in the latest research and best practices from a wide variety of settings. Using this network of educators, we will construct a framework for dual language learners that will use evidence-based strategies for screening, response-to-intervention, assessment, and treatment of this unique population.

Through guided readings, videos, interactive discussions, and real world application activities, educators will develop a toolkit for their setting that will allow them to dynamically and effectively meet the needs of their multi-lingual students.

*Please note that a textbook is required for this course (Paradis, J., Genesee, F., & Crago, M. B. (2011). Dual language development and disorders. Baltimore, MD: Brookes.). The textbook can be purchased for approximately $30.00 on amazon at the following link: Click Here
